Interactions between nematodes and other factors on plants.

چکیده
The distinction between qualitative and quantitative interactions is stressed as it helps to elucidate differences between two current definitions of the term synergism and how multifactorial experiments should be designed, analysed statistically, and their results interpreted. Factorial design and analyses are strongly advocated so that interactions can be detected. It is suggested that interactions involving nematodes are common in nature and should be included, where appropriate, in hypotheses. Methods for testing the hypothesis that environment influences tolerance are suggested.

Field evidence for indirect interactions between foliar-feeding insect and root-feeding nematode communities on Nicotiana tabacum
1. As herbivory often elicits systemic changes in plant traits, indirect interactions via induced plant responses may be a pervasive feature structuring herbivore communities. Although the importance of this phenomenon has been emphasised for herbivorous insects, it is unknown if and how induced responses contribute to the organisation of other major phytoparasitic taxa. 2. Survey and experimen...
متن کاملMeta-Analysis of Interactions between Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi and Biotic Stressors of Plants
Naturally, simultaneous interactions occurred among plants, herbivores, and soil biota, that is, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), nematodes, and fungal pathogens. These multiple interactions play fundamental roles in driving process, structure, and functioning of ecosystems. In this study, we conducted a meta-analysis with 144 papers to investigate the interactions between AMF and plant biot...
متن کاملAbiotic Soil Factors and Plant-parasitic Nematode Communities.
A natural community of plant-parasitic nematodes is usually polyspecific. The host plant is the most important driving force in nematode populations, but abiotic factors are important in maintaining the steady state. Nematode communities often separate by abiotic soil factors. In any continuous habitat, including crop plants, generally there is a consistency of the most abundant species, which ...
متن کاملInhibitory Effect of Watermelon Mosaic Virus on Meloidogyne javanica (Treub) Chitwood Infecting Cucurbita pepo L.
Interactions between root-knot nematodes and viruses were recently reviewed by Taylor (4). Compared to virus-free cowpea (vigna sinensis Endl.), cowpea mosaic virus-infected plants formed fewer galls on roots in response to infection by Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid and White) Chitwood (2). On the other hand, tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum L.) infected with tobacco ringspot virus (TRSV) and ...
متن کاملPlant systemic induced responses mediate interactions between root parasitic nematodes and aboveground herbivorous insects
Insects and nematodes are the most diverse and abundant groups of multicellular animals feeding on plants on either side of the soil-air interface. Several herbivore-induced responses are systemic, and hence can influence the preference and performance of organisms in other plant organs. Recent studies show that plants mediate interactions between belowground plant parasitic nematodes (PPNs) an...
